Working Income Tax Benefit not the same in every province and territory

(NC)—The Working Income Tax Benefit (WITB) is a refundable tax credit intended to provide tax relief for eligible, working low income individuals and families, including those with disabilities who qualify for the disability tax credit.

Different WITB calculations and maximum amounts apply for residents of British Columbia, Nunavut and Quebec, as compared to the rest of Canada. But no matter which province or territory you live in, use the Canada Revenue Agency's online calculator to estimate the amount of the WITB you may be entitled to receive. After you apply for the WITB, the Canada Revenue Agency will also send you a notice that explains your benefit amount.

Other factors on which the WITB amount is calculated include your income, if you have children, or if you qualify for the disability tax credit. In the latter case, you could be eligible for the WITB disability supplement in addition to your basic amount. You can find out what the amounts are for your province and territory and how to apply for WITB advance payments at www.cra.gc.ca/witb.
